Who we are
Simeal is an independent engineering consultancy founded in 2026 by Alexandre Mertz, specialising in the energy performance and decarbonisation of buildings.
Alexandre is an engineer by training, with degrees in mechatronics and energy from the University of Strasbourg and in Building and Architectural Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano. He built his experience in engineering consultancies, on energy retrofit projects, building simulation, environmental design and carbon strategy.
Simeal was founded to put that experience into engineering that is rigorous, practical and useful when a decision has to be made. Our work is to understand how a building behaves, to study the options open to it, and to give the client the technical, energy, carbon and cost figures needed to choose between them.
We work in France and in Luxembourg, for public and private clients, and alongside engineering consultancies and architects.

Understand what is at stake
Every project starts by framing the question precisely: the building, the way it works, the objectives of the project and the constraints to be taken into account.
When the initial scope does not allow that question to be answered properly, we propose changing it before the study begins.
Study the options
Once that is settled, we identify the options worth studying and compare them on the same basis.
Operating data, calculations and simulations show what each option does to energy consumption, carbon emissions, operating conditions and the economics of the project.
Decarbonisation is at the heart of our work.
We look for the options that cut carbon emissions effectively, while staying consistent with the technical and economic reality of the project.
